Instruction for authors

Movement & Sport Sciences - Science & Motricité publishes scientific articles in French and in English. Articles in English are increasingly encouraged.

Two types of issues are possible:

Regular issues, which are composed of papers submitted by authors
Special issues, which are coordinated by an invited editor, presenting a set of papers related to a specific theme

Regular Issues

Different types of manuscript can be accepted.

Reviews: These articles should present a well-referenced synthesis about knowledge and contemporary questions in a major subject in the field of human movement, sport, and physical activity. These reviews should not exceed 60,000 characters (including spaces, without counting the references, figures have to be counted for 1200 characters).

Original articles: These articles comprise of completely original experimental material. These articles should not exceed 50,000 characters (including spaces,without counting the references, figures have to be counted for 1200 characters).

Special Issues

Each Special Issue should include a collection of papers related to a particular theme, and is entrusted to a Guest Editor. The aim of these special issues is to propose an overview of international research in a particular area. Any project for a Special Issue can be proposed to the main Editor and will be supported by one of the Section Editors.

Three formats can be considered for special issues:

A series of articles that address the same theme.
A target article followed by multiple invited commentaries.
A compilation of articles containing the lectures of an international symposium (ACAPS Congress or other conferences sponsored by ACAPS).

The choice of the theme is obviously essential. It should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief with details that support its interest. Special Issues can be composed of papers that are written in either French or English. In all cases, the Title, Abstract and Key-words should be provided in both languages.

Practically, the coordination of each Special Issue will be managed by the designated Guest Editor, who will be the primary contact for all aspects of the associated work. The Editor has to determine the format of the Special Issue and its composition, to contact the authors, and lead the process of expert articles.

Issues must contain at least 60 pages, but it is possible to exceed a hundred pages. Each page represents 6,500 characters (including spaces) in plain text. For example, an issue of 80 pages should contain 520,000 characters (including spaces). Thus, each Issue could be composed as follows:

8 articles of 65,000 characters,
10 articles of 52,000 characters,
12 articles of 44,000 characters,
etc.

Note that these formats include references, abstract, and notes. Figures and tables must also be considered, depending on their size.

Language

Science & Motricité publishes articles in French or in English. The abstract is both in French and in English.

Manuscript submission

Manuscripts should be submitted via the application NESTOR which allows the review process to be coordinated by the editors of the journal.

All manuscripts are reviewed anonymously. All materials for submission are reviewed and may need revision. This material can not be submitted to another journal whatever the language used.

Only original materials will be accepted for publication, except for a summary of a scientific workshop. In this case, the authors must specify on the presentation page of the manuscript where and when the research was presented. The presentation page will contain the title, the list of the authors, their affiliation, their e-mails and the complete address of the corresponding author. All accepted materials become EDP copyrights and require permission to use and/or reproduce copyrighted material from EDP Sciences.

Manuscript preparation

The first page should contain the following elements:

The title with a maximum of 200 characters;
The abstract with a maximum of 200 words
Three to five keywords not present in the title
Acknowledgements if authors wish to insert this content in the publication;

The second page should contain the same information but in French.

Manuscript should be typewritten in Times New Roman characters with a font of 12 pt and double spaced with margins of at least 2.5 cm at top, bottom and sides, including footnote and references. Lines should be numbered consecutively, page by page, on left the margin. Page numbers should be placed on top left.

Original articles must be presented in accordance with standard presentation of their field. For an experimental article, manuscripts should be described as follows: Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion and References. Tables and Figures are inserted in text with their caption.

Non-conventional terms or acronyms should be explained in parenthesis the first time they appear in the text; moreover, these definitions could be included in a glossary at the end of the manuscript.

Notes will be limited and numbered in accordance with their appearance in the text. They will be put at the bottom of the page.

Citations in the text:

2 authors:
Both authors are cited each time.
Goudas and Biddle (1993)

When the citation is in parentheses, names are separated by the symbol "&".
(Goudas & Biddle, 1993)
From 3 to 5 authors
For the first occurrence, cite all authors
Spencer, Ivry, and Zelaznik (2003)
(Spencer, Ivry, & Zelaznik, 2003)

Then cite the first author, followed by "et al." Spencer et al. (2003) (Spencer et al., 2003)
More than 5 authors: From the first occurrence, cite only the first author, followed by "et al."

In the case of a possible confusion between two references (same first author and same publication year), cite as many authors as necessary for eliminating the ambiguity, followed by "et al."

References will be classified by authors name alphabetical order and brought together at the end of the article.

Their presentation should be abbreviated according to The American Psychological Association (APA, 7th edition).

For particular references, please refer to the guidelines of APA, 7^th edition.

Please pay attention to the accuracy of references. Indeed, reference links on the website can only be activated if they are complete and accurate.

Tables and figures should be presented as in APA guidelines.

All tables and figures should be cited and numbered consecutively throughout. They must be accompanied by a caption, clear enough for it to be read and comprehensible without reference to the text. All columns, line, and axes, should have a title with used unit. Symbol functions must be described. The author will provide original illustration with an appropriate resolution for publication. For previously published illustrations, the author must cite copyrights and give the prior consent of the publisher. This copyright agreement should be given before the submission of the manuscript.

Accepted manuscripts

When the manuscript is definitively accepted, authors should provide the publisher with a version as following:

Only one file in word format;
Names and affiliations are added on title page;
Numbering of lines is deleted;
Tables and figures are placed at the end of the file (one table or figure by page, with their caption). Their citation will appear in the text.

Please respect these instructions because all incomplete manuscript will be return to authors before being accepted.

Color illustrations

On paper version, illustrations are published in black and white format with a color version appearing in the online version, free of charge (author should only make a contribution (price on demand to EDP sciences) for the publication in color).

Electronic-only material

We encourage authors to submit multimedia material to highlight their article or help the reader. Electronic-only material is designed to provide supplementary information which is either too voluminous for printing or is designed specifically for the web as oversize data table, computer code, color illustration etc. For more information on the submission of this material (file requirements, etc.) please contact the production service.
