Résumé

Dans un contexte où la surmédiatisation des corps structure le rapport de l’individu à son environnement et sa propre image à travers une dichotomie sexuée, ces travaux de recherche visent à interroger l’impact des stéréotypes incorporés par les élèves sur les choix opérés dans une séquence de musculation scolaire. L’identification des représentations des élèves, au regard des différents paradigmes de pratique en musculation et des “thèmes d’entraînement” affichés par le législateur (Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale) depuis 2010, permet d’observer l’évolution du rapport entretenu avec le corps et l’activité. Dans ce cadre, le recueil exhaustif des données notées par les élèves dans leurs carnets d’entraînement, en parallèle de l’analyse de leur genre psychologique grâce à la version simplifiée du Bem Sex-Role Inventory, illustre la relation entre les normes incorporées et les décisions réalisées in situ. Cette mise en relation des décisions structurant l’activité des élèves, et des tendances psychologiques et sociales associées à ces dernières tend à montrer la perpétuation des normes de sexe incorporées, autour d’une dialectique féminin/masculin, dans les choix réalisés en musculation scolaire. Le choix des muscles travaillés, du thème d’entraînement sélectionné et des justifications apportées se spécifie largement au prisme des rapports sociaux de genre.

Abstract

In a context where the excessive media exposure of bodies defines the individual’s relationship to its environment and its own image through a gendered dichotomy, this research work aims to question the impact of stereotypes incorporated by students on the choices made in a school bodybuilding sequence. By identifying the students’ representations of the different paradigms of bodybuilding practice and the "training themes" set out by the legislator (Ministry of National Education) since 2010, it is possible for us to observe the evolution of the relationship maintained with the body and activity. In this context, the exhaustive collection of data recorded by the students in their training diaries, alongside the analysis of their psychological gender using the simplified version of the Bem Sex-Role Inventory, illustrates the relationship between incorporated norms and decisions made in situations. This comparison of the decisions structuring the students’ activity, and the psychological and social tendencies associated with them, tends to show the perpetuation of incorporated gender norms, around a feminine/masculine dialectic, in the choices made in school bodybuilding. The choice of muscles worked, the training theme selected and the justifications given are largely specified through the prism of gender relations.
